
Area Chief Engineer
Courtyard Marriott Downtown Baton Rouge and Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Baton Rouge are seeking a skilled, highly motivated Area Chief Engineer for our hotels. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring our hotel and equipment run smoothly. You’ll have the opportunity to lead two facilities teams while still being able to roll your sleeves up and utilize your abilities to fix a problem on your own.
The Area Chief Maintenance Engineer is a key leadership position overseeing the maintenance departments at both the Courtyard and Hampton Inn in Baton Rouge. This role involves managing the physical infrastructure and equipment across both hotels, ensuring a high standard of quality, efficiency, and safety. Responsible for guiding a team of maintenance technicians and chief engineers, the Area Chief Engineer plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional guest experiences. This position requires the development and implementation of strategic maintenance plans and compliance with safety regulations. Additional duties may be assigned by hotel management.ABOUT US:

DUTIES
- Provide leadership and direction to the maintenance teams, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Ensure properties are compliant within the guidelines of Hospitlaity America’s Preventative Maintenance program.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring that each member of the team understands their role and contributes to the overall success of the department.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
- Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans and schedules to ensure the efficient operation and longevity of the hotel's physical assets.
- Coordinate with hotel management and department heads to prioritize maintenance projects and allocate resources effectively.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and process optimization within the maintenance department.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all hotel facilities and equipment, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, elevators, and structural components.
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments to identify maintenance needs and address potential issues proactively.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements for maintenance activities.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to maintenance technicians, assisting with troubleshooting complex issues and performing specialized repairs as needed.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to facility maintenance and engineering.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on building systems, codes, and standards for the hotel complex.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards governing facility maintenance and operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures to mitigate risks.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures for maintenance activities, equipment operation, and emergency response.
- Develop and manage the maintenance department budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring costs, and optimizing resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements while maintaining high standards of quality and service.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, contractors, and service providers for outsourced maintenance services and equipment repairs.
- Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and pricing terms to ensure cost-effective solutions and reliable service delivery.
- Monitor vendor performance and adherence to contractual obligations, addressing any issues or concerns as needed.
- Uphold the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction by ensuring that maintenance issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Communicate with guests regarding maintenance-related concerns or disruptions, providing timely updates and resolutions with professionalism and courtesy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3 years in a maintenance role, that required the troubleshooting and repairing of various systems and equipment such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to encourage co-workers to perform their best work in a positive and respectful manner.
- Self-directed and ability to work independently.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
